Overthinking & Rumination Therapy

I offer online therapy across the UK for people who find themselves caught in cycles of overthinking, mental replaying, or constant analysis.

Rather than trying to stop thoughts or “think more positively”, therapy with me focuses on understanding what keeps these patterns going, and developing a different relationship with them over time.

Many people I work with describe:

  • replaying conversations long after they’ve happened

  • going over decisions repeatedly, unsure if they were “right”

  • getting stuck in loops of “what if…” or worst-case scenarios

  • analysing thoughts, feelings, and situations without feeling any clearer

  • finding it difficult to switch off mentally, even when they want to rest

  • feeling mentally exhausted, but unable to step out of the cycle

Overthinking often isn’t just about thinking “too much”, but about feeling unable to step outside of your thoughts.

What Overthinking Can Feel Like:

How Overthinking Is Understood In Therapy

In our work together, overthinking isn’t treated as something to simply reduce or control.

Instead, we might begin to explore:

  • what your thinking is trying to do or protect you from

  • how these patterns have developed over time

  • what tends to trigger or maintain the cycles

  • how you currently relate to your thoughts when they arise

Often, the more we try to “solve” overthinking through more thinking, the more stuck it can become.

Therapy offers a different kind of space, one where thoughts can be understood and changed, rather than constantly analysed or pushed against.

My therapy approach is integrative and relational, meaning therapy is shaped around you rather than a fixed model or set of techniques.

Sessions might focus on:

  • slowing things down and creating space from constant mental activity

  • noticing patterns in how thoughts arise and loop

  • understanding the emotional context beneath overthinking

  • working at a pace that feels manageable, without pressure to “figure things out”

Over time, many people find that the intensity of overthinking softens, not through forcing it to stop, but through understanding it differently.

How I Work

Therapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • persistent overthinking or rumination

  • difficulty making decisions or trusting yourself

  • mental replaying of conversations or situations

  • feeling stuck in analysis without resolution

  • anxiety linked to uncertainty or “getting things wrong”

  • a sense of being disconnected from the present moment

What Therapy Can Help With

Sessions take place online via secure video call.

In early sessions, we might begin by exploring what tends to show up for you, whether that’s specific thought patterns, situations, or a more general sense of being ‘stuck in your head’.

Overtime, we can make sense of these patterns together, and find new ways of relating to thoughts and emotions.

What Sessions Are Like

This therapy may be a good fit if you are:

  • looking for a non-judgemental and collaborative space to help you with overthinking

  • feeling caught in your thoughts and unsure how to step out of them

  • tired of analysing things without feeling any clearer

  • open to exploring your experience, rather than trying to fix it quickly with quick fixesand worksheets

  • wanting a more spacious and less overwhelming relationship with your mind
